CONFERENCE OF MOTHERS
Mixed media installation, 2013
15 x 16 feet
Exhibited as part of Songs for Spirit Lake 2013-2015
Songs for Spirit Lake opened May 24, 2013, in the Rauschenberg 19th Street Project Space, New York City, and traveled to Spirit Lake Nation, Fort Totten, and the North Dakota Museum of Art, Grand Forks.
Funded by the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, Songs for Spirit Lake was part of a three-year project organized by the North Dakota Museum of Art. The project brought together seven artists: John Hitchcock, Tim Schouten, Mary Lucier, Bill Harbort, Rena Effendi, and Terry Jelsing.
Challenged to capture the sights and sounds of life on Spirit Lake reservation, they conveyed different perspectives on the subject of contemporary Indian culture on the reservation.
